How long can I arrange the mortgage term over?
Different lenders have different positions to this. The standard mortgage term is 25 years. Some lenders will offer 35 year terms and even 40 year terms. Care should be taken if you elect for a very long mortgage term. The longer the term of your mortgage the more interest you will pay. Also if you intend to take a mortgage that takes you over your retirement age, it is important that you take specialist advice about how you are going to meet the mortgage repayments in retirement.
